Plenty of history to explore


  • Drive along historic Battlefield Road where you will find the Battle of Fishers Hill historic site.
  • Continuing along Battlefield Road you can stop to admire the beautiful creek from the low water bridge.  There are several Civil War historical markers along Battlefield Road as you head towards Route 11.  
  • Turn left on Route 11 and head to Strasburg.  This historic town is full of unique shops and eateries.  Be sure to check out the breweries.  The Antique Emporium is a must see for collectors.
  • On your visit to Strasburg Municipal Park you can drive down to the river, and stick your feet in the water at the boat ramp.
  • On Route 11 close to Interstate 81 (Exit 298) is a Civil War museum for history buffs. Walk the grounds and explore the Civil War markers.

SKYLINE CAVERNS
Skyline Caverns is a series of geologic caves and a tourist attraction located in Warren County, Virginia, one mile south of Front Royal. The caverns were discovered by Walter S. Amos, a retired geologist and mineralogist from Winchester, Virginia, on December 17, 1937.

LURAY CAVERNS
Luray Caverns--originally called Luray Cave-- is a cave just west of Luray, Virginia. It has drawn many visitors since its discovery in 1878. The cavern system is generously adorned with speleothems such as columns, mud flows, stalactites, stalagmites, flowstone, and mirrored pools.

 There is a guided tour of subterranean caverns with geological & crystalline formations,
plus a souvenir shop.

OGDENS CAVE NATURAL AREA PRESERVE
Ogdens Cave Natural Area Preserve is a 131-acre Natural Area Preserve located in Frederick County.

 The preserve protects a cave that carries a below-ground branch of Buffalo Marsh Run, which also

 flows overland through the preserve.
